Alcohol misuse needs of PPOs in South Bedfordshire
The results of the alcohol misuse needs of PPOs in South Bedfordshire are now available. The report presents a series of recommendations to meet the needs of this specific client group and provides the foundation on which to develop local alcohol interventions. One of the key findings to emerge from the consultation with professionals and prolific offenders in this area is the difficulty they have in agreeing the type of service that works best to meet their needs. Some suggest that this client group would benefit most from a dedicated alcohol service; others recommend existing services can respond to alcohol misuse and offending needs.

Community Safety Resource and Training Hub Launched
Perpetuity Training is pleased to announce the launch of an exciting online innovation in Community Safety, created in partnership with Leicestershire County Council. The Community Safety Resource and Training Hub (CS-Hub) is a bespoke online e-learning and communication platform designed to take Community Safety learning and communication to new heights.
The CS-Hub enables Community Safety Partnerships to develop key skills and knowledge in line with the hallmarks of effective partnership working. The hub covers a number of important subject areas including Problem Solving, Offender Management, Information Sharing, Hallmarks, Domestic Abuse, Hate Crime, Alcohol and Community Engagement; all of which are fully customisable and instantly updatable.
In addition to the learning material the CS-Hub provides innovative tools for self assessment and learning confirmation as well as internal communication, document storage, and contact information. The programme went live in May and has already received very positive feedback. Wendy Martin, Chair of Harborough District Community Safety Partnership said:
'Community engagement and consultation is always a problem and I found it very useful to have a course to help focus my mind on it. I have also done the quiz on assessment of priorities and management of performance. I have found it helpful to have the courses because they give a better understanding rather than just reading the Home Office publications'

| The true picture of knife crime in our inner cities
A report from the Commons Home Affairs Select Committee publicised in June has suggested that an "arms race" has developed among young people who carry knives because they believe that others do. They also suggest that knife carrying is seen as normal in some deprived parts of big cities.
Perpetuity is currently working with one local partnership to increase their understanding of the trends and patterns in knife carrying amongst young people in their urban area. The study has involved the dissemination of surveys to young people to gather a body of evidence of the prevalence of knife carrying amongst young people and to explore some of the reasons why young people carry knives. The partnership hopes to use the survey findings to target resources at areas in need of interventions.
If you are interested in exploring the nature of knife carrying or use in your area, please contact us on prci@perpetuitygroup.com or 0116 2225555. |

Security Strategy
Research has found that very few companies have a full security strategy in place and where they do, it is rarely seen as 'fit for purpose'. In response, Perpetuity has produced a web based toolkit providing advice and guidance on how to develop a security strategy as part of the Security Research Initiative 2008 http://www.perpetuityresearch.com/researchclubs/sri.html.
The website provides guidance on how to carry out strategic analysis, the strategic development process, implementing strategy and the strategic review. There is also a security strategy template which can be adapted for your own organisation, supporting tools and example security strategies. The website is available only to SRI sponsors for six months until November when it will be freely available to everyone.
Watch this space for details on how to access the site when it becomes available. For information on how to become an SRI sponsor please contact us on 0116 222 5555. |

Perpetuity assists the British Retail Consortium develop their Retail Crime Survey
Perpetuity is working with the British Retail Consortium (BRC) to develop the annual Retail Crime Survey. BRC members, who represent a range of retailers and trade associations, are being asked for their opinions of the existing crime survey. The views gathered through this consultation will then be used to develop the future content of the survey; the hope is to boost participation in the future and to provide results which can become a helpful reference point for all those interested in retail crime.
