Ian Hall speaks of his new role as Head of Security Consultancy
As you can expect, I am delighted to join Perpetuity as the new Head of Security Consultancy. Perpetuity opens a whole new chapter of opportunity for me with its unprecedented position in the security industry and fantastic balance of academic and professional credentials.
I will be bringing the security consultancy business from AIM Ltd, my former company, in a merger of consultancy business, alongside managing the delivery of all current and new consultancy contracts awarded to Perpetuity.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Perpetuity to expand its consultancy arm, bringing many exciting challenges in areas of my expertise such as close protection, translation & travel planning whilst working closely with the research and training arms of Perpetuity to offer what we believe to be a unique point of difference.
I have a comprehensive security background from military and policing, through to more recent work in commercial security with sound academic credentials to match. To read more about me, please click through to my biography.

The extent to which young people are carrying and using knives in one UK city
Perpetuity has recently surveyed young people aged 11 to 17 in one city in the UK to better understand the trends and patterns in knife carrying. The study was commissioned so that local partners in the area can gain a better understanding of the problem so that resources can be allocated to areas of the city most in need.
Clearly patterns and trends in knife carrying and use vary from area to area and individual strategies are needed to target the differing problems and priorities. By administering a survey local partners now have a much better understanding of their local issues and how to address them.
If you are interested in exploring the nature of knife carrying or use in your area, or other survey work please contact Perpetuity on prci@perpetuitygroup.com or 0116 222 5555. |
CCTV - 'My views' Ian Hall - Head of Security Consultancy
"In my experience, the quality of staff who run an installation - be it a corporate office building or a town centre CCTV scheme - is the missing ingredient in all too many security systems. You can get the technology right but get the manpower wrong and the whole thing will fall apart.
The elements of manpower that you need to take into consideration are vetting, training and site instructions. Sounds simple? Yes, but in my experience, it's the achilles heel of many a security system, observed more often in the breach than in the practice.
These simple elements - training and vetting; are important yet often overlooked areas in many CCTV systems, as in many other sectors of security and business in general.
We at Perpetuity are sitting on a goldmine of expertise which most consultancy firms are simply unable to match, and I am keen to leverage the influence and credibility of the research and training divisions of Perpetuity.
For example, the consultancy team will build on data from the research division, using it to enrich the quality of its reports and recommendations for clients, offering training where a gap becomes apparent during the course of our work. A typical consultancy can't give you the depth of detail that Perpetuity can with its extensive portfolio of CCTV experience, research and training."

Benchmarking Community Safety
In the current climate of maximising cost effectiveness, there is huge benefit in benchmarking the performance of your Community Safety Partnership and learning from others.
Perpetuity Research and the policy research team at IPF (Institute of Public Finance) are exploring the development of a community safety benchmarking tool.
The tool enables you to:
- Understand how you compare against other CDRPs on performance and investment
- Be confident that the services you commission are providing value for money
- Learn why some CDRPs are more successful than others and know how you can improve
- Consider ways to improve and achieve greater value for money
We are currently working with a group of interested CDRPs to pilot the community safety benchmarking tool and are keen to hear from others interested in shaping its development.
